So, first, I hit up a bunch of garage sales this weekend, and went down to the Goodwill and came back with some awesome treasures. I got some great finds for my new room, and some other neat stuff I want to use for DIY makeovers and sell-able projects.
My first find was this vase. It was neon green, which didn't quite fit my color scheme but I liked how simple and classic it is, so I spray painted it with some white gloss paint. It'll look great somewhere in there, I'm just not sure where yet!
My next Goodwill find (and probably my favorite one) are these awesome metallic bids that I bought for $9. They're kind of retro-glam wall hangings. I walked through the aisle they were in a few different times and then they just caught my eye. I was going to spray paint them a darker, non metallic color, but I think the metallic finish works well with the stripes.
Not only do they contrast nicely with the stripes, they also create some horizontal movement. It helps to keep an airy, light feeling in the attic style room because of the slanted ceilings.
Another awesome find was this white cotton woven rug. I've been scrounging everywhere for an affordable chevron rug, but I just can't bring myself to spend $60 or more on a tiny accent rug. I got this for $4 at a garage sale, and with the help of my dad, taped out where I wanted my stripes and made my own awesome chevron accent rug.
At first I wanted solid black stripes, but some of my furniture has a distressed look, so I ended up liking the worn looking stripes.
I found this half moon table in my basement. ($FREE.99!) I needed something for a night stand. I spray painted it yellow, then distressed it. It works nice as a small night stand and it helps to keep the clutter away.
I found these little guys a few weeks ago at an antique shop for $15. These were one of my more expensive finds. They were just so creepy but so cute, I had to get them. They add a nice whimsical touch to the room.
My most expensive find for the room was this awesome lamp. I got it at Target for just a little over $40. The shade is such an awesome print, and is the perfect yellow to be a focal feature in the bedroom. The shade partners well with the lighter yellow night stand.
I really like how you can mix and match the lamp shades and bases at Target for a more customized feel.
And finally, my bedside presentation all together:
I apologize for the rough picture, exposed cords, and air conditioner sneaking in the image. Like I said, the room isn't completely finished yet. I did get a good amount accomplished this weekend, and I'm happy to say the painting is all done- that's the worst part.
In the next few weeks I will be updating with the completion of my new bedroom. My next project is refinishing my childhood dresser, and a desk that I'll be using as a vanity.
:)
